American Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching. People all across the United States are planning on celebrating the holiday with their family. This is not a normal year however. With the COVID-19 pandemic spiking throughout the country, everyone must adapt to safely celebrate Thanksgiving. How can you safely celebrate Thanksgiving during the COVID-19 pandemic?

In past years, extended family and friends would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving as a group. The more people, the merrier. It was a time to be together. This year is different due to COVID-19. We need to limit the number of people we celebrate with. It is recommended to only have your immediate family pod together for Thanksgiving this year. Do not include family members living at other residencies. This is especially important if you intend to celebrate indoors.

November weather varies depending on where you live. If you do plan on having people over for Thanksgiving that are outside your immediate pod, make sure you celebrate with them outdoors. Continue to practice social distancing and wear a mask. COVID-19 is incredibly contagious. These simple steps will greatly reduce the spread.

It's important that if someone is feeling ill, they do not socialize during the holiday. This should be for all potential symptoms. As stated earlier, COVID-19 is extremely contagious. Isolating any sick individuals will limit possible spread. It's better to miss out on Thanksgiving, then to be included and spreading possible infection.
